Robert S. Michael was born in Iowa City, Iowa. He joined the firm in 1987. Bob attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with minors in Business and Political Science, in 1984. In 1987, he obtained his law degree, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he was also the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Family Estate Planning. Bob was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1987; to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa in 1987; to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa in 1988; and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in 1989. He is a member of the Johnson County, Iowa, Bar Association; the Iowa State Bar Association, and it's Business Law, Probate & Trust Law, and Real Estate & Title Law sections; the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association; and the Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association.

Bob has served as Special Prosecutor for the City of Iowa City, Iowa, and continues to serve as Assistant City Attorney to the cities of Tiffin, Oxford, Swisher, and Lone Tree. He has also served as legal counsel for the Iowa City/Coralville Jaycees and on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Children's Museum.
